ABOUT

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) invites architects & urban designers to participate in the Mumbai Street Lab.

This lab aims at facilitating the transformation of 5 important streets - SV Road, Napean Sea Road, Vikhroli Park Site Road no.17, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road and Rajaram Mohan Roy Road - in Mumbai with the creative expertise of designers in the city. Through this lab, urban designers will have the unique opportunity of working directly with MCGM and other city stakeholders on "live" street design projects. The winning proposal for each street will be one that is the most human-centric, contextual, inclusive and practical in its design approach.

Mumbai Street Lab is a platform for designers and the city government to meet, and to pilot innovative and creative street design solutions as a demonstration of success of this model.

The first stage of this Lab is a Competition that seeks conceptual design proposals for the streets from urban designers. At the end of this competition, one winner for each street is selected. The winning teams then move into a Studio phase, where they detail their proposals in discussion with the MCGM, Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) and other experts. On receipt of the drawings, the MCGM will execute the designs on site with their contractors, under the supervision of the winning teams. Winning teams will receive an honorarium of Rs 5 lakhs each from MCGM.
